Description

26°S 121°E | On the Map presents a comprehensive survey of printmaking in Western Australia. Curated by Laura A. Taylor this exhibition, presented by Mundaring Arts Centre, unites work by 35 WA print artists and offers a tantalising glimpse of the diversity of print practices that can be found between Broome and Albany.

Representing well-known WA printmakers and introducing innovative younger artists, the exhibition pays homage to all WA artists working in the ancient art form of 'print making' – such as etching, woodcut, lithography, screen-printing - or reinterpret these processes into a modern narrative which speaks to a world that increasingly values the hand-made over the mass-produced. 26°S 121°E | On the Map testifies that while geographical location may inform these artists' works, it is no barrier to plugging into the global contemporary arts network.

The exhibition, which is funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries of WA, is held in tandem with Print Council of Australia's national 2017 Print Commission folio launch and is supported by a series of workshops delivered by PAWA printmakers at the Midland Junction Arts Centre.
