The Mid West Art Prize 2011 - Call for Entries

The Geraldton Regional Art Gallery, working in conjunction with the City of Geraldton-Greenough and the Art Gallery of West Australia, has long seen the need for a major art prize exhibition coordinated and staged here in Geraldton-Greenough. As a result, the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery will launch the inaugural Mid West Art Prize Exhibition on 5 March 2011. The exhibition is open to artists throughout Western Australia working in any medium. A strict selection process will be adhered to so as to ensure an exhibition of the highest calibre. Entries will be limited to a maximum of 2 works per artist ensuring a diverse exhibition of broad appeal. Judging will be completed by three independent people from outside of the region who are respected within the arts community.

Jesper Just @ John Curtin Gallery

Event Title: Jesper Just.

Description: The John Curtin Gallery will present Danish-born artist Jesper Just as part of the 2011 Perth International Arts Festival. Just combines meticulous high-end film production with an artist's profound insight into the human condition. Exploring gender and racial politics through the lens of cinematic convention, Just weaves mesmerizing narratives of enigmatic solemnity. Working consistently with small ensemble casts over many years, Just also fully engages the viewer with beautifully crafted soundtracks adapting popular songs to unravel emotional interrelationships with breathtaking intensity. This exhibition features the Australian premiere of a new work, Sirens of Chrome.

Dates: 11 February 2011 to 8 April 2011.
Opening Times: Mon - Fri 12 - 5pm plus 1 - 4pm on the last sunday of every month.

Peter Usher and Holly Grace @ Gunyulgup Galleries

Event Title: 'New Works' & 'Poetic Nature'.
Participating Artists: Peter Usher, Holly Grace.

Description: Our upcoming summer exhibitions are 'New Works' by Peter Usher, paintings of sea and tree scapes capturing atmospheric conditions with a unique perspective. Also 'Poetic Nature', recent glass forms by Holly Grace are sandblasted with landscape imagery using metal leaf and specialised techniques.

Tania Ferrier @ Heathcote Museum & Gallery

Event Title: The Quod Project.

Description:
The Quod Project is a multidisciplinary art exhibition by Tania Ferrier about a building called the Quod. The Quod is the largest deaths in custody site in Australia and is now part of a luxury style tourist resort on Rottnest Island. In collaboration with Aboriginal elders representing Wadjemup/Rottnest and photographer James Kerr, 'The Quod Project' exposes hidden history and holds up a mirror to ourselves; are we responsible for our ignorance?
