Beautiful Vermin @ Gallery Central

Participating Artists: Indra Geidans, Philip Ward Dickson, Therese Howard, Debbie Walker Tremlett, Eva Fernandes, Olga Cironis (all WA), Yvette Watt (TAS), Rona Green (VIC), Emily Valentine (NSW), Franck Gohier, Chayni Henry, Iwana Ken and Tjanpi Desert Weavers (all NT).

Venue: Gallery Central, 12 Aberdeen St, Perth.

Description: Artists look at the relationship between humans and nature focusing on the paradoxical love that some of us have for bunnies, foxes and animals that don’t belong here in Australia. How do we fit in and what do we allow to coexist? Artists from WA and beyond respond to the love/hate relationship we have with these cute critters and feathered friends, pets and pests. We adore them despite the fact that they are extremely detrimental to our environment, or we despise them but can’t help but be seduced by their plumage, pelt or intelligence.

Dates: 8 March 2014 to 29 March 2014.

Opening Times: m-f 10-4.45pm sat 2-4.45pm.

Participating Artists: Jennie Feyen

Venue:  Noodle Palace, Piccadilly Cinema, 700 Hay Street, Perth, Western Australia

Description: ‘Mieru’ is a video installation that consists of a wall lined with recycled toy stuffing, soft colour projections and the sound of the Crystal Armonica, a very rare instrument that was invented by Benjamin Franklin. The installation will be exhibited at Noodle Palace.

The concept for Mieru was inspired by an experience my music teacher, Chiho Kagawa, had when she performed this instrument in Kobe, Japan.  She was approached by members of the audience who said that their children, who are blind, claimed they could see colours when listening to the instrument.
