Shopfronts, cafes and outdoor spaces in Albany's CBD will host imaginative artworks and performances. Exhibitions will also be shown in the Albany Town Hall and Vancouver Arts Centre.

We would like to invite you to our COMMUNITY ART MARKET

THE Pulse Art Studio in Spearwood is opening its doors to the community for two days of crafts, creation and music.

The studio is run by local artist Nis Wichtermann, who is working on turning his family home into a community house and centre for workshops and sharing artwork.

This weekend's workshops, on Saturday and Sunday, will feature mini interactive demonstrations of wood sculpting, clay, painting, printing and dyeing, and music.

There will also be market stalls and artwork by emerging artists on display.

Entry is free and taking part in demonstrations costs a gold coin donation.

Nis's daughter Danica said they were hoping residents would come and join in with the 10 artists.

The market runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday 26-27 February 2011 at 52 Kent Street, Spearwood.

Carolyn Griffiths @ The UWA Club

Event Title: Visual Tempos.

Description: 'Visual Tempo's, an exhibition by Carolyn Griffiths will be held at the University of UWA Club Gallery. The work explores a merging of rhythmic painterly surfaces with echoes and cadences of images momentarily glimpsed. Resonances, some melodic or discordant can be glimpsed by the viewers. The painted works interface with both personal and superficial human rhythms.

Carolyn's painting techniques explore the creative potential of the imagination and inner self. She employs abstract techniques and mixed media alongside acrylic enamel paint and objects evoking a sense of immediacy - of 'painting in the moment' - expressing depth of form and feeling. 'Her unique blend of materials and techniques manifest in powerful alchemical statements about the nature of nature'. (David Giles, artist)

Event Title: A Snapshot in Time, the Photography of Frederick Flood - 1920's-1950's WA.

Description: This exhibition presents a snapshot in time of the themes and styles of renowned photographer and artist, Frederick Flood (1881-1965). Recorded during his career as photographer for the West Australian Newspaper Group (1920's-1950's), this collection of work is selected from Flood's personal collection of photographs and watercolours, and documents the growth of a nation through the subtle and sensitive eye of a great Western Australian artist.

Event Title: The Elusive Light.

Description: the elusive light will feature works by Stephen Armitstead and Lia McKnight, including their first ever collaborative work. In direct response to the Heathcote Gallery, its particular spaces and architecture, the exhibition will feature new objects, installations, photography and video installations. All works relate to the word light‚ and its various meanings, that is: illumination; lack of weight (or mass), delicacy, and the absence of profundity. Intervening with and incorporating the interior spaces of the site, the exhibition is intended to be a spatial and sensorial experience for visitors.
