Zhong Chen @ Greenhill Galleries

Event Title: 32 Strokes of Kung Fu.

Description: This much-awaited exhibition of striking works by Zhong Chen is the artist's first show in Perth since 2006. In that period of time, both change and continuity are evident in Chen's paintings - whilst his brushwork has evolved to bold, expressive movements (a progression from his popular pixelated images), his work continues to explore historical and contemporary cultural identity as well as Chen's own transcultural psyche and feelings of belonging.

Description: A juried exhibition of contemporary quilts, presented by the Western Australian Quilters' Association.

A diverse range of contemporary quilts will be exhibited in stitched and bound 2012. The juried selection of twenty works from WA textile artists shows a range of innovation that extends the definition of a quilt.

This biennial exhibition shows selected works from the leaders in textile art in Western Australia. stitched and bound 2012 showcases the range and talents of these artists and introduces contemporary quilts as an art medium to the wider audience.

Christine Atkins @ MUNDARING ARTS CENTRE

Description: Christine Atkins presents an exhibition of sculptural fibre works embodying the human experience of finding a place to call home; a place of safety and acceptance. Her intricate sculptural forms are constructed from Guildford grass, thread, stitch, reclaimed timber and found objects.

The accompanying catalogue includes critical essays by Kate Campbell-Pope, Judith McGrath and Meagan Shand to present a dialogue regarding the notion of shelter, both physical and metaphorical.

Christine will also hold fibre and jewellery workshops at the Mundaring Arts Centre during her exhibition.

Description: This exhibition presents a world of culinary taste, temptation and ritual as seen through the eyes of the artist. Pop-up Gallery @ The Colonnade

Event Title: Pop-up gallery.

The Colonnade,

Description: In August, Pro Subi are bringing locals and art together in another creative pop-up space.

Inspired by previous community paste-up exhibitions around the metro area, artists are encouraged to make the most of the pop-up gallery in Subiaco which will be a free exhibition space for visual artists of any medium to exhibit their work every Saturday and Sunday during August between noon and 4pm.

Located at the Colonnade, 388 Hay St in Subiaco (in the old Xile, shop number 20) will be over 30 metres of partitioning for the artists to hang their work for public display.

During the exhibition there will also be special performances from either the Beehives GoGo dance troupe, vocalist Karin Page, accordionist Nikki Dagostino or harpist Michelle Smith.

Dates: 4 August 2012 to 26 August 2012.

Jessica McCallum & Kim Evans @ Smart Space

Description: An exhibition exploring our reflections in the world of flowers by mixed media artist, Jessica McCallum and photographer, Kim Evans officially opens Friday 14th September 2012 at Smart space Gallery, 464 William Street Northbridge Western Australia.
Finding the familiar in flowers.
Jessica McCallum is a local emerging artist, specialising in mixed media, large-scale portraiture. Anthropomoflora is her fourth exhibition, and she is excited to be collaborating this year with upcoming Perth photographer Kim Evans in his first show. Featuring exotic flowers and carnivorous plants depicted in original watercolours & inks with a dark twist, large mixed media pieces and ready to hang stunning macro photography, Anthropromoflora will be showing for one week only. This Spring, venture out to the aptly named, vivid green Smart space on Northbridge's cultural strip, and take home something pretty.
