Displacement - Darryn Ansted
Event Title: Displacement.
Participating Artists: Darryn Ansted.
Venue: Melody Smith Gallery, 69 Oats St Carlisle WA 6101.
Description: Darryn Ansted's paintings come alive at the point you're able to perceive their deep internal tensions - when their seemingly flat, abstracted surfaces give way to the conceptual fissures below, riven with aesthetic and ideological pressure. Internal contradiction has been the engine of meaning throughout much of his work, with perhaps the most basic contradiction being this: Ansted is committed to art-making as a socially, politically and ethically charged practice while simultaneously fixated with the techniques, tropes and aesthetic autonomy of high modernism.
Dates: 6 July 2013 to 27 July 2013.
Opening Times: Tues- Friday 12- 5pm.
