Venue: Activ Library,
327 Cambridge Street, Wembley WA 6014 .

Description: Activ's flagship art exhibition, Activ Artspace is returning to
Wembley for its third successive year this March.

Launched in 2014, Activ Artspace is a free public exhibition showcasing
original art pieces created by people living with disability. The 2016
exhibition will feature original photographs alongside painted pieces
created through a range of different mediums.

The 2016 exhibition will also feature a flagship auction piece created by
talented West Australian artist and Activ customer Paul Mitchell OAM. Winner
of the 2015 Activ Artspace Jarmen McKenna Representational Award, Paul is a
respected and celebrated artist in his own right.

A former Paralympian, Paul was awarded an Order of Australia for his gold
medal win in the men's 1500m track event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Following his retirement from professional athletics, Paul dedicated his
time to sketching and drawing famous personalities.

Paul was touched by the passing of iconic Australian Steve Irwin, which
inspired him to paint his first portrait. The piece was entered into a
number of exhibitions and kick-started Paul's artistic career. With no
formal training, Paul began painting more and more personalities, including
Western Warriors Captain Adam Voges, which is now displayed in their Perth
clubrooms.

Paul's piece will be auctioned off at the exhibition, with all money raised
going towards supporting future Activ Artspace Exhibitions.

Activ Artspace will be open to the public from Saturday, 5 March until
Friday, 11 March 2016. The majority of pieces on show are available to
purchase, with the proceeds from every artwork sold going directly back to
the artists.

accommodate queer identities and experiences. By developing on tactics of
displacement and deconstruction - such as the tearing of bedlinen - Colgan
has further explored means to navigate his ambivalent relationship with the
bedroom space.

Developing beyond the residency, this work will hopefully be included in a
group exhibition Colgan is curating at Free Range Gallery early this year,
