Event Title: Abando
Participating Artists: Jarrad Martyn
Venue: The Butcher Shop,
276 William Street Northbridge WA 6003.
Description: Abando, a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jarrad
Martyn, explores the allure of abandoned sites and buildings. Encountered
through a curiosity in exploring and an interest in painting walls, Martyn
examines the human interaction in these sites after they have become
abandoned. Often explored while travelling, Abando features a range of
different sites, from an abandoned theme park in Berlin to an abandoned
entertainment complex in Bali.
The exhibition is the result of the work created during the artist residency
at The Butcher Shop. For the past two months Martyn has been occupying The
Butcher Shop studio.

Jenn Garland @ Free range gallery
Event Title: Date with disaster
Participating Artists: Jenn Garland
Venue: Free range gallery,
339 Wellington St, Perth WA 6000.
Description: DATE WITH DISASTER, a solo exhibition by Jenn Garland, explores
our fascination with havoc. Sculptural works, painting and photography
simulate a landscape where the artificial has declined into the chaos of
nature. Here human construction and interventions are seemingly reabsorbed
into the environment. Inspired by the materiality and forms of
post-industrial ruins, DATE WITH DISASTER investigates "ruin porn" and
apocalypse as popular Internet tropes. Combining the language of
advertising and social media with the aesthetics of decay, Garland
contemplates the ways we consume images of disaster. She questions whether
our interest in ruination is as a symbol of impermanence, evidence of
Modernism's fading Utopian dream, or stems from something darker.
Dates: 02/06/2016 to 07/06/2016.
Opening Times: OPENING- Thursday June 2nd, 6-8pm; CONTINUES -Till late on
Friday 3rd 11am- 7:00pm; Saturday 4th - Tuesday 7th 11am-5:00pm.
