Now in its second year, Southern Perspectives 2017 is an exhibition of Year 12 Visual Arts Students displayed at Heathcote Museum & Gallery. All exhibiting students will have graduated in 2016 from selected high schools located South of the River. Southern Perspectives 2017 provides an opportunity to experience thought-provoking artworks by some of the states most talented graduating students.

Southern Perspectives is to be opened on Friday 10 February 2017 at 6pm. The exhibition runs from Saturday 11 February to Sunday 19 March 2017.

Description

Working in response to Spectrum Project Space's gallery and surrounds, Sophie La Maitre explores the mundane and often overlooked aspects of our everyday environments. Interested in how sites can be re-presented and how the inherent history of objects can be shown through found objects, La Maitre seeks to reintroduce audiences to their daily spaces and bring attention to the peripheral characteristics of the everyday.

This exhibition is part of Fringe World Festival 2017.

Opening Night, Friday, 3rd February 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Exhibition runs: Friday, 4th February to Friday, 17th February.
Open Hours: Tues - Friday, 10:00am - 5:00pm ; Sats, 12:00pm - 5:00pm

Artist Talk: Saturday, 11th February 2:00pm.

Sophie La Maitre is the recipient of the 2017 Spectrum Project Space Artist in Residence. This annual program allows an artist one month's access to Spectrum Project Space at ECU's Mount Lawley Campus as a working studio, with the aim of exhibiting their new works in the gallery at the end of the residency. This program is in its fourth year.
