Spectrum - Preview of Fittings and Fixtures of Distinction

Event Title: Fittings and Fixtures of Distinction

Description:
Perth was voted in 2009 by the "Economist" as the fifth most liveable city in the world, but for whom?

Artists Nicola Kaye and Stephen Terry's work deals with what they consider to be a general apathy and disinterest in broader social issues within contemporary Australian society. Kaye and Terry's digital projections, installations and interactive exhibits focus on social inequalities in an attempt to navigate the complex interconnectedness of governments, economics and identity.

By layering and juxtaposing imagery such as public toilets with supposedly "high art" references such as theatre performers to hint at the unseen and unheard.

Fittings and Fixtures of Distinction, a series of night projections, in the Spectrum Project Space windows juxtapose images of decoration and necessity. The work is positioned outside of the gallery context, so the only view the audience are afforded is voyeuristic, expanding on Kaye and Terry's work which deals with public and private spaces.

This show is a continuation of ideas developed in recent works and presentations in London at the University of Westminster (2009), at the International Symposium on Electronic Art in Singapore (2008), in Guangzhou at Sun Yat-Sen University (2007) and as part of the Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth (2007).

Running from from 8:00pm to 10:00pm
* Thursday the 4th March, Friday 5th March and last screening on Saturday 6th March
* Shopfront @ Central, Beaufort Street, Northbridge (on the Beaufort Street side of Central TAFE gallery)
