Maria Hildrick @ Free Range Gallery

Event Title: Small Change.
Participating Artists: Maria Hildrick.

Venue:
Free Range Gallery,
399 Wellington Street, Perth.

Description:
Small Change exhibits a series of diptychs exploring change by Perth based artist Maria Hildrick. Change can be as subtle as it can be stark and sometimes it is the lack of change that is significant. Working in pairs allows for several dialogues to exist and obvious change in some will be a clue to the viewer as to how the more subtle images can be read. Throughout her practice Maria has referenced imagery of her own past in order to illustrate her subject matter. This process draws parallels to the way in which we refer back to our own past in order to navigate our present.

Dates: 14th September 2012 to 19th September 2012.
Opening Times: Open daily, 1 - 6pm. Opening reception Thursday 13th, 6pm.

Jane King and Anne Duff @ Heathcote Museum & Gallery

Event Title: Edge of Centre: Through the Wall.
Participating Artists: Jane King and Anne Duff.

Venue:
Heathcote Museum & Gallery,
58-60 Duncraig Road, Applecross.

Description: Old buildings have a presence that reflects their past. We read a building's architecture and the wear of the years on its skin and imagine how it lived, what it felt and saw.

It's like looking through the walls from the present to the past; pulling back layers of paint to reveal wallpaper or uncovering old newspapers hidden beneath wooden boards.

Jane King and Anne Duff have peered through the wall of an old corner shop in Willagee to another time; when the world was bigger and slower, when old social networks were localised, like small satellites stretching delicately out toward each other, connecting thinly, at random.

In this technological age it is no longer fantasy to be able to see through walls. New radar technology has been developed that will allow the viewer to peer through solid surfaces in real time with nothing more than a cell phone.

Today, networks are dense and far reaching.

privacy has become the fantasy.

Dates: 29 September 2012 to 4 November 2012.
Opening Times: Tues - Fri, 10-3pm; Sat-Sun, 12-4pm.

69 Oats Street, Carlisle, 6101.

Description: Woody's large scale atmospheric paintings are imbued with an otherworldly quality reminiscent of romantic landscape painting. The tension between surface, mark and shape slows the eye and reveals the potential of paint to captivate and seduce through a dedicated and focussed exploration of process.

Dates: 15/9/2012 to 13/10/2012.
