6000.

Description: Cottesloe Beach, the summer of 1988, Australia's Bicentennial
Year

The beach odes to mortality are wonderful. Slightly sexy in a pathetic and
soft sort of way. Reminds me of caring once, and of the regret of having
lost the care, and the peace of later years that has now wiped those cares
away. And I'm not especially old. But these pix take me someplace I'm not
familiar with and that's a kind of miracle. Very cool that you're
resurrecting them. Sean Justice, New York, May 21, 2013.

Andrew Varano @ Venn Gallery

Event Title: Final Shavasana.
Participating Artists: Andrew Varano

Venue: Venn Gallery, 16 Queen Street, Perth 6000.

Description: Varano's previous lo-fi kinetic sculptures utilised repetitive
movements and sequences to draw the viewer into points of focus within a
sculptural assemblage. Through the use of these specific aesthetic
strategies and their accompanying soundscapes, the works aimed to engineer a
focus, which could be equally described as both zen-like and neurotic.

Final Shavasana builds upon these concepts to examine repetitive movement
through undertaking studies of the human body in the state of exercise and
structured poses. The artist suggests that gym equipment can be seen as a
form of kinetic sculpture and that the repetitive movement that these
dictate can provoke a kind of mind/body split, causing one to experience a
sense of disembodiment.

Dates: 23 October 2013 to 22 November 2013.
Opening Times: Wed - Sat, 11am - 5pm.

of work is a quiet and contemplative reflection on the less significant and
often overlooked moments present in everyday life. Judy Rogers is an artist
who is caught up in the details. Her disarming portraits of family and

are rendered with a sensitivity and stillness which seems to slow time.

imbued with an honesty and warmth rarely evident in contemporary figurative
painting.

GIANT - Christian Fletcher - The Epson Print Gallery

Event Title: GIANT.
Participating Artists: Christian Fletcher.

Venue: The Epson Print Gallery, Team Digital, 268 Lord Street, Perth.

Description: We are all told, size doesn't matter! In most cases this is
true. If you're talking about photography though, SIZE DOES MATTER.

Christian Fletcher, not a very big man himself, caught on to this idea many
years ago. Stitching with a 5D Mark II was the order of the day. Multiple
shots, multiple headaches, it got the job done but it was just outright
annoying. Christian wanted big files, big prints and more resolution that
you could poke a small guy at.

Along came the mighty PhaseOne camera. First he was happy with 60MP but he
wanted more, he wanted to go GIANT. Enter from the right the Phase One
IQ180. All his prayers were answered. From a single capture he could make
the sized prints that really had "the right stuff".

In this exhibition Christian wants to show the detail that is there but
often muffled and confused by lesser cameras. He wanted images that
reflected more than what the eye can see, a hyper reality.

Giant words for a GIANT exhibition..

Dates: 19 June 2013 to 26 July 2013.
Opening Times: Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5pm; Sat, 10-1pm Sun, Closed.

Western Australian Artists @ Wallflower Photomedia Gallery'

Event Title: Intimacies - Western Australian Artists @ Wallflower Photomedia
Gallery
Participating Artists: Christophe Canato, Erin Coates, Thea Costantino,
Justin Spiers, Christine Tomás.

Venue: Wallflower Photomedia Gallery, 42 Deakin Ave Mildura, Victoria.

Description: Intimacy is a complex aspect of human relationships. The
'appropriate' level of familiarity or closeness between family members,
people of the same or opposite gender, people of different ages or social
rank, animals and so forth, is largely determined by cultural context.

At different times, there have been punitive consequences for the wrong kind
of intimacy — and, in this sense, perspectives on closeness are a potent
measure of a given culture's values. In the contemporary Western world,
where technology brings us closer even when we are physically distant, and
where social propriety is much more relaxed than in the past, intimacy is a
decidedly subjective notion. When it is welcome, it is the special
connection, often non-verbal, experienced with a fellow creature. However,
unwelcome intimacy is experienced as a violation of personal space and
etiquette. It is possible to experience intimacy when it is not tangibly
perceivable — a close relationship might be felt with deceased people,
deities or inanimate objects, for example. Indeed, we might impose intimacy
upon an object that has little say on the matter. The artists in this
exhibition examine this rich ground, embroiling the viewer in diverse
perspectives on intimacy.

Dates: 7 June 2013 to 7 July 2013.
Opening Times: Mon-Fri 10-5pm, Sat 12-4pm.

Suburban Table,

Description: ATom1746 (A-Tom1746) is a Perth based urban artist inspired by the combination of traditional pop art and contemporary street art. His career as a visual artist began in Christchurch New Zealand where from 2008 onwards his traditional pop art paintings began to be influenced by his admiration and study of street artists such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Faile. Since then he has been involved in a number of group and solo exhibitions with work being featured on TV and local newspapers. In 2012 he travelled extensively to study art, visiting sites including the British Museum, Tate Modern, The Louvre, MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and he even met with Mr Brainwash, a leading street artist. A minimalist approach to his work is often taken, limiting the palette to only two or three colours in the style of a Banksy stencil, Shepard Fairey Mural or even a Warhol Screen-print. He believes in the timelessness of black and white and likes to use salvaged materials and images wherever he can, turning something discarded and forgotten, into something new and fresh but still with a sense of history. All works are produced with high quality lightfast paints and finished with varnishes to ensure preservation of the materials.

Event Title: In Celebration of Domestic Joy.
Participating Artists: Mia Laing.

Venue:
Suburban Table,
622 Stirling Highway Mosman Park 6011.

Description: After many years of pursuing a career in 'Children's Illustration', Mia initially turned to canvas painting as a means of de-stressing from the demands of the illustration field, and to try a medium that was more fluid and forgiving than pen and gouache. She knew immediately that she had found a new passion.

Mia's love of photography, of capturing light and life, helps her to freeze moments into a photograph, which she then uses to paint from. Mia enjoys many genres of oil painting, including portraiture, still life and landscape. Mia finds real joy in setting up a still life and playing around with it until she finds the perfect light and composition. She believes her still life painting's are a celebration of domestic joy… a full fruit bowl, a bunch of cheerful flowers. Her life portraits, depict children, pets and families, captured in natural, unposed moments. Her paintings are always a celebration of joy and the beauty of life.

Mia started working her art as a career just last year. In 2012, Mia entered 4 art prizes and had a win in two of these, which is a great accomplishment. Mia won the 'People's Choice Award' at the Mosman Park Art Awards in 2012, for her painting of 3 children playing on a jetty, titled "Look Before You Leap". She also won the 'Animal Art Awards' held at the Perth Art Expo in 2012. Her winning painting, "Girl's Best Friend" depicts the love of a child for her dog.
