Jane King and Anne Duff @ Heathcote Museum & Gallery

Event Title: Edge of Centre: Through the Wall.
Participating Artists: Jane King and Anne Duff.

Venue:
Heathcote Museum & Gallery,
58-60 Duncraig Road, Applecross.

Description: Old buildings have a presence that reflects their past. We read a building's architecture and the wear of the years on its skin and imagine how it lived, what it felt and saw.

It's like looking through the walls from the present to the past; pulling back layers of paint to reveal wallpaper or uncovering old newspapers hidden beneath wooden boards.

Jane King and Anne Duff have peered through the wall of an old corner shop in Willagee to another time; when the world was bigger and slower, when old social networks were localised, like small satellites stretching delicately out toward each other, connecting thinly, at random.

In this technological age it is no longer fantasy to be able to see through walls. New radar technology has been developed that will allow the viewer to peer through solid surfaces in real time with nothing more than a cell phone.

Today, networks are dense and far reaching.

privacy has become the fantasy.

Australian advertisement? In Imagine the future‚ you are taken beyond the
boundaries of conventionality in popular culture to ask why not?‚ as the
possibilities of the future in advertising is explored.

I am. You are. Who is Australian? Is a bold debut for a young and emerging artist.

To coincide with Australian instrumental group Dirty Three's upcoming Australian tour, guitarist Mick Turner's artwork will be on show with artist friend Jo Darvall in Perth at Central Institute of Technology for four days in March 2012.

This is an opportunity to see into the creative practice and inquiry of two friends who were a part of a unique time in Melbourne's fast paced underground music and art scene.

Mick Turner and Jo Darvall are former housemates from the 'St Kilda days' in the 80's.

'Beautiful, playful and colourful Turner/Darvall's art works will entertain and entrance the entomologist and music fans alike'. Thelma John Art Curator

On show will be a selection of Darvall's most interesting and ephemeral works; small sculptures and paintings from 2 years investigation and study into Western Australian themes such as: the epic journeys people undertake to create a better life for themselves and their families, leading them into the most arid and uninhabitable landscape imaginable.

Darvalls sculptures represent these people, they have taken on the form of a moth or insect incorporating detailed etchings which form the wings and little body's of the small creatures. Elaborately layered, dry, parched and wind blown by landscapes they journey in. The little 'Travellers' become reminiscent of images found in scientific treatises.

Internationally acclaimed musician and prolific artist Mick Turner will be exhibiting some of his most poetic work created to date including limited edition reproduction prints of cover art images from Dirty Three albums along with a selection of recent work. Mick has been exhibiting his visual art publicly since 2004. His art is held in private collections worldwide.

Darvall has been exhibiting since 1985 is now residing in Fremantle and teaching art at Claremont School of Art and Kidogo Art Institute.

Description: Carolyn has had five solo exhibitions (and numerous group exhibitionts) over the last five years. Her current solo exhibition In the Spirit, will feature vibrant paintings, which are primarily experimental and constantly take the artist to new and interesting ground. The new works show a development of Griffith's organic style towards more defined outlines, suggestive of novel, spirited beings or organic natural forms. The abstract works are stunning compositions of complex colour palettes and bold mark making, soft blending, engaging pattern making that show an intense maturity of intuitive purpose. Griffith's works are painted with great gusto and profound intuition - paint is dripped, poured, splashed and applied in a variety of ways and in this sense her work is experimental..

Graeme Pages-Oliver @ Kidogo Art House

Event Title: My Inner Tree.
Participating Artists: Graeme Pages-Oliver.

Venue:
Kidogo Art House,
Bathers Beach, Mews Road Fremantle.

Description: An exhibition of drawings and limited edition prints by Graeme Pages-Oliver.

A weekly journal of thoughts, feelings, ideas and travels expressed as a tree.

Fifty two black and white drawings compiled in 2011 that reflect a roller coaster ride of feelings set in the west Australian landscape ranging from Albany in the south to the Kimberley region in the north.

While the delicate pen and ink line drawings become the centre piece of the exhibition many of them have been transformed into limited edition prints. Like the drawings, the prints are basically black and white with the introduction of some soft atmospheric colours, mostly in the sky.

The prints are created using a combination of digital, and screen printing techniques onto acid free water colour paper. The black line work in the prints is further enhanced with the use of a publishing technique to raise the ink above the surface of the paper, creating a three dimensional shiny black line.

A preview of the fifty two drawings can be seen on YouTube at http://youtu.be/MeilUfWome0
or on the artist web site at www.pajez.com.au

Dates: 15 March 2012 to 21 March 2012.
